Stockholm is recognized as one of Europe’s leading cities for technology, artificial intelligence and is a hub for start-up companies and new technologies that integrate sustainability and the urban environment. Stockholm has a perfect panorama with a combination of green areas, both sea and lake waterways and modern sustainable architecture. The Swedish capital is also home of the Nobel Prize, musical legends Abba and a historical legacy of art, history and royalty.
Must experiences:
- Stockholm Archipelago Discovery Cruise – We design your private excursion, cruising amongst the islands of the Stockholm Archipelago. Travel by steamboat, sailing boat, ferry boat or even on exciting high-speed rib boats. Your exclusive boat will take you to private islands for lunch and even summer swimming at Vaxholm Island. Include a kayaking experience for some team building excitement. For small groups, we can even arrange an overnight stay and gala dinner in a private mansion on one of the islands.
- Tour the majestic Drottningholm Palace – Depart from Kungsholmen on a private sailing boat to visit this UNESCO World Heritage site, the Royal Residence of Drottningholm. This Royal Palace from the 1600s is home to the Swedish King and Queen and is an unforgettable sight. It is set within a beautiful natural park and you will also visit the Chinese Pavilion and the unique wooden Palace Theatre, still used for performances in the summer months. Don’t miss this tour!
- Visit Vasa and Djurgarden Island – a tranquil oasis in the middle of the city. Highlights are a guided tour of the Vasa Museum learning the history of this famous Viking ship. You will walk through the entire ship that has been incredibly restored indoors. Next, walk through the tree-lined pathways of Kungliga Djurgarden to your private picnic lunch spot. For large groups, we can arrange a candlelit dinner inside the Ship Hall, right next to the grand 17th-century ship Vasa.
- Private customised Food Tour – Our food specialist will give you insight into the New Nordic eating concept. Discover what it means to eat like a local in Stockholm as you move through the Old Town and central neighbourhoods. Stopping at a variety of venues, from Stockholm’s best-loved food truck to a trendy brewery, cosy cafes, organic small producers, pastries and markets and witness restaurant tech and zero-waste meals.
- Take our Sustainable Stockholm Tour – We explore our European Green Capital city on foot and using boats, trams and our unique subway trains. You will experience several ways Stockholm is developing sustainable initiatives for both visitors and those who live here – explore the city with your eyes on the future.
Must eat:
- Classical Swedish meatballs with mashed potatoes and lingonberries.
- For something sweet, enjoy Swedish Cinnamon Buns and Princess Cakes (green marzipan-iced cake filled with layers of sponge, raspberry jam, custard and cream).
Best time to visit: May to September but if you are combining a Winter Wonderland adventure in Swedish Lapland then the best time is February-March. For photographers and nature lovers, we recommend October – this is when the autumn leaves and colours are spectacular and you can enjoy the cosy atmosphere and long nature walks with fewer crowds.
Best nightlife: The Stureplan district is a great area for a night out. Enjoy pre-dinner drinks at Riche followed by dinner at one of the great modern Swedish cuisine icons such as Agrikultur or the highly acclaimed 3* Michelin Frantzén. Another great local tip is an evening at Fotografiska set in a brick-built museum. Enjoy drinks and dinner in its zero-waste restaurant, with views over the harbour and walk through the excellent contemporary photo exhibitions.
Top tip: Stockholm has many great events during the year, especially in the European summer, but we suggest combining your visit with 2 of our favourites:
- Stockholm Jazz Festival: 14-23 October 2022
- Smaka Taste of Stockholm Food Festival: Early June each year
