Our DMC in Malaysia, recently created a unique Malaysian Village theme party for a group of 300 Spanish delegates. A Malaysian Village theme was created for the gala dinner inside the Grand Ballroom of the Mandarin Oriental in Kuala Lumpur.

Guests experienced a regal Malaysian welcome amidst the rousing beat of traditional Malay hand drums, Kompang, as they were greeted with fresh orchid garlands and an assortment of cocktails by young women clad in colorful traditional costumes.

The entrance of the ballroom is fitted with a Malay styled arch roof with hurricane lamps to give it a rustic feel. As guests enter the ballroom, the Malaysian ambiance is reflected in the many decor props on and off the stage such as ladies playing congkak (a traditional Malay board-like game), a standalone Kampong hut (village house), real banana trees and potted bougainvillea plants and ferns – all typical of a Malaysian village scene. Other decor includes a printed backdrop of a typical village scene, square batik over-lays on round tables with coconuts, flowers and candles as centerpieces and special lighting and effects.

Guests can also watch experienced craftsmen at work making delicate bead work and batik painting and can try these crafts for themselves. Witness a Chinese master calligrapher writing your name in Chinese characters with a brush and ink or a good luck message on a red scroll for you to take home as a souvenir. Wood carving crafters also create relief patterns on wood.

When the gong strikes, guests are invited to feast on the sumptuous Malaysian cuisine prepared by the hotel. Live cooking stations/stalls and themed pushcarts are decorated according to the cuisine served such as Chinese and Indian. Traditional Nyiru trays with assorted local fruits adorn the food stalls. Live Gamelan music (traditional Malay royalty’s percussion-based court music) will entertain your guests while they indulge in the Malaysian cuisine. The night ends with live performances of cultural dances by a professional dance troupe in lavish costumes and colorful props. This night of splendor will leave a lasting impression of true Malaysian culture and hospitality.
