- Short Day Hikes: Pokhara Valley is at the end of the famous Annapurna Circuit and a gateway to some of the most famous long-distance treks in Nepal. It also offers plenty of rewarding short walks and day trips suitable for children and weary trekkers. One popular option is a visit to Dhampus, a traditional Gurung village where visitors can experience local culture, customs, and warm hospitality against a backdrop of scenic mountain views.
- Phewa Lake: Phewa Lake is the second largest lake in Nepal. Surrounded by lush greenery, the lake offers stunning views, especially on clear days when the reflection of Mount Machhapuchhre shimmers on the water’s surface. Boating is a popular activity here, allowing visitors to enjoy the serene surroundings at a relaxed pace. The lake’s northern shore has grown into a vibrant lakeside hub, lined with souvenir shops, bookshops, hotels, restaurants, and cafes that cater to both domestic and international travellers.

- Adventure: Pokhara offers a range of soft adventure experiences that allow you to enjoy its landscapes at your own pace or with a touch of adrenaline. Cycling along lakeside trails and through nearby villages is a great way to explore the area’s natural and cultural charm. For a more elevated experience, head to Sarangkot, known for its sweeping Himalayan views and as the launch point for two of Pokhara’s most popular activities—paragliding and zip-lining. Together, these activities make Pokhara a favourite destination for outdoor enthusiasts.
Must eat: Pokhara is full of culinary delights and a food lover’s paradise. It has an amazing selection of restaurants offering local and international multi-cuisine menus catering to all tastes. From locally sourced fresh fish from the Phewa Lake, specialty coffee joints, local bites to lakeview restaurants serving Nepali, Indian, Japanese and Italian cuisine, there are plenty of choices in this relaxing lakeside city. You must try poleko machha (pan-cooked fish without oil) and aalangkhu (buckwheat dumpling soup).
Best nightlife: Pokhara is the place to be when talking about nightlife in Nepal. Along with an amazing variety of restaurants, Pokhara also has several bars and clubs offering jazz, live music and dance performances.
Best time to visit: Travel is best in late February to early May or September to early December. October and November are the busiest months of the year as they coincide with one of Nepal’s biggest festivals.
Top tip: Even though December and January are winter months and generally low season, the temperature in Pokhara varies between 7 to 21°C. It is relatively less crowded with some clear weather days for great mountain views and is a good off-season time to plan your visit.
