Argentina has always been on travel bucket lists: Patagonian glaciers, tango in Buenos Aires, feasting on beef Asado, watching Gaucho in action, witnessing soccer at its finest, the friendly locals, drinking Malbec in Mendoza, hiking the Andes and skiing in Bariloche.
These classics alone make it a dream destination that doesn’t disappoint even the most experienced traveler. Beautiful, defiant and intense, Argentina is ready to seduce visitors around the world.
Must Experiences
- Patagonia evokes images of glaciers, turquoise lakes, hikes on windy plains, penguins and romantic isolation. It is a vast region making up roughly the bottom 3rd of Argentina and Chile. If you want to lose yourself in the wild and discover incredible landscapes, Patagonia is an unforgettable destination. Go trekking discovering the best of National Parks Torres del Paine and El Chalten, and visit the Perito Moreno glacier in El Calafate.
- Visit Iguazú falls. No amount of words or pictures can do one of Argentina’s most famous landmarks justice. Voted as one of the 7 Natural Wonders of the World, Iguazu Falls is undoubtedly the most visited place in Misiones and one of the most imposing natural attractions in Argentina and the world.
- Explore Buenos Aires – there are so many things to see in “Baires”! It is one of the 20 largest cities in the world. Visit Plaza de Mayo, La Boca neighbourhood, the Obelisk and Recoleta Cemetery. Enjoy the nightlife with a Tango dinner show and explore the countryside and learn all about the gauchos and ranch life on the Pampas.
- Enjoy the Argentine Wine Route. World quality wine, snow-capped mountains (including Aconcagua, the highest peak outside of the Himalayas), lunar-landscaped deserts and sunny days almost year-round. Combine all these ingredients and you get Cuyo, a region that is out of the radar for most international tourists, but that makes a lasting impression on those who decide to visit it.
- Stop by the provinces of Jujuy and Salta. Located in the northwest of Argentina, they are breathtaking destinations to visit. Both regions can be covered in the same trip. Some interesting tourist spots are the archaeological site of Pucará, in Tilcara, which is 2,500 meters above sea level, and the Quebrada de Humahuaca and its impressive hill of 7 colours. This region has a lot to offer, with its colorful landscapes, traditional towns, extremely friendly locals and mouth-watering food.
Must Eat
- Take your taste buds on a culinary adventure and try Argentinian Asado (bbq). Argentina has become a beef Mecca. It’s an excuse to get together with friends, family or colleagues.
- Enjoy the Argentine national drink: Maté – so much more than a drink, it’s a ritual!
- Try Argentine empanadas. They are easy to make and delicious to eat. Enjoy them for breakfast, lunch, or dinner, served as an appetizer or main dish.
- The Argentinian dulce de leche is a typical dessert of the southern nation. It is literally sweetened milk or milk jam, similar to a type of caramel. Dulce de leche is practically a religion. It is the sweet soul of the country.
Best Nightlife: Experience vibrant Buenos Aires with its dazzling lights, attractions, and nightlife! See its illuminated attractions and be overwhelmed by the city lights and the magical nighttime atmosphere. The nightlife in Buenos Aires can be found throughout the city’s many districts, but the most happening district is without a doubt Palermo Soho, with its countless bars and nightclubs. Don’t expect much action before midnight though, as Buenos Aires really starts to party after 1am!
Best time to visit: Given the expanse of Argentina’s territory and the variety of climatic zones, choosing the best time to visit the country depends on the region you want to go to. We consider Argentina’s springtime (October to mid-December) and autumn (April to mid-June) to be the best times to visit the country, avoiding the tourist crowds and peak season prices.
Top Tip: Take the time to see less-visited sights. To really get the most out of your stay in Buenos Aires, try to see a few of the things that are often missed. A boat ride on Tigre Delta, a walk around the nature reserve, a visit to the Mataderos market on a Sunday afternoon, and a stroll around Palermo woods. Get away from the hustle and bustle of the city and explore nature and the history-rich parts of the greater Buenos Aires metropolitan area.
