What is a Destination Management Company?
A Destination Management Company (DMC) is a professional services company that is locally licenced and has its operational offices located in its country.
A DMC comprises travel experts with extensive local knowledge of all the elements that make for a successful event, conference or incentive travel programme.
Services include: transfers, transportation, dinners with a difference in unique locations, accommodation, activities, excursions, tours, teambuilding, social responsibility interactions, connecting with local communities, décor, audio visual, on-site assistance, entertainment and much more.
Why use a DMC?
Contracting a local DMC partner in the country you are travelling to as an extension of your company has many benefits. These include: bridging language and cultural barriers; managing local suppliers who may think differently from what you are used to; leveraging their local buying power as a preferred supplier; well-trained staff who can give your travellers advice about what to do in their leisure time; knowledge of local weather patterns; knowledge of unique dinner and meeting locations and an ability to get your group access to these often private function areas; ensuring your event meets local legislation and safety criteria. Most importantly, in the event of things going wrong they will be at your side with an emergency action plan.
Does 1 DMC World charge the event planner an additional fee?
No. 1 DMC World is a non-profit marketing network. It only acts as a resource to connect the buyer (travel agent, event agency, incentive travel company, PCO, meeting planner, corporate planner) with the DMC and Tour Operator.
Do your DMCs provide services direct to corporate buyers?
Yes. We have many multinational corporate clients who prefer to work directly with the local DMC when organizing their event.
How do we become a member of 1 DMC World for our country?
We only accept one professional DMC or Tour Operator per country. If we do not yet have a preferred partner listed, you can contact us to apply to join based on our vetting criteria. If we already have a DMC in your country, we will put you on the waiting list.
Can we give confidential feedback – both positive and negative on your DMC members?
We welcome all feedback. It’s our goal to deliver world class service at fair value to our clients. If for any reason you are not satisfied with any service delivery by our members, please contact us and we will liaise with both parties for a successful resolution.
Do your DMCs do private and group leisure travel bookings?
In recognised incentive and conference destinations many of our DMCs only specialise in MICE business for incentives, conferences and events. However, in emerging and smaller destinations, we have tour operators who welcome your leisure travel enquiries for tours, honeymoons and holidays. On each country page we list the services the DMC provides.
Can we send you enquiries for multiple destinations?
Yes. We will then send each country DMC their part of the programme, as we believe each country needs to be handled by a local expert.
